LEGENDS BEHIND IT'S NAME

Formerly known as Lutod‐lutod, this town has its own legend on how it got the name Lutod‐lutod. Legend has it that a "caliph" known as Caliph Marin ruled this town. He lived in a placed with his wife Dayang Arambela. Caliph Marin was a fierce warrior for whenever there was fighting, he was always in forefront. A sultan named Sultan Palawan decided to make war with Caliph marin. the war was announced by a great bell and battle ensued furiously.

Folklore tells that Caliph Marin magical power that every time his body was cut to pieces, it become whole again the following day. Helpless, Sultan Palawan consulted his high priest Hintutulo to counteract the Caliph's power. Observing the battle, the high priest caught a culilang bird keeping watch during the battle. It was through the culilang bird that the Caliph's secret was known. It revealed that wrapping the cut pieces of Caliph's body with the badiang leaves will prevent it from joining with the other parts. So when the Caliph's body was severed, they wrapped it up with badiang leaves and blood flowed for three weeks. Pool of blood reached ankle deep. They resembled "lutod" or scattered fragments later became mounds of lutods. This was lutod‐lutod got its name.

On June 14, 1049, by virtue of R.A. no.274, the Municipality of Lutod‐lutod was established and was named President Roxas in honor of Manuel A. Roxas first President of the republic.
